UPDATE #1- $14,760 Raised!
9/2/2020 – We are completely blown away…..seriously speechless at the overwhelming generosity from all of you to help our Jacob! To be honest, we were extremely uncomfortable with the thought of asking our friends and family for help. But when it came down to it, we realized it was the only way that we could get Jacob the proper help that he needs. It takes a village, right? No truer words, right now, thanks to all of you!
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and we will be forever grateful!
We wanted to give you an update on Jacob. It was a week ago tonight that Jacob left for his Wilderness Therapy. It was an excruciating day knowing that he was leaving and that we probably wouldn’t see him for about 2-3 months. My “mother’s heart” was aching with sadness that it got to this point, and that I wouldn’t be able kiss him good night and see his beautiful smile in the morning. But I also felt a little relief and hope knowing that he will soon be starting his journey of healing. He arrived at camp on Thursday afternoon, got a physical, suited up with all of his gear and out to meet his group by 6pm. We got our 24 hour update on Friday evening from staff saying that he was adjusting pretty well, he was very kind, respectful and engaging with everyone. However, he was feeling homesick and sad, but not mad at us for sending him there, which was honestly surprising. They said that is very unusual….most kids are super angry, yet Jacob seemed accepting and understanding of what was ahead of him.
We get our first update from his therapist tomorrow and I’m praying that it’s a positive call, but I’m ready either way. I realize its a process…a long one, so I’ll take the baby steps however long it takes!
Thank you all again and please continue to keep Jacob in your prayers!
Adoptive Families Coalition (AFC) is writing to you on behalf of Jacob’s family. We are assisting them in funding their son’s treatment not covered by insurance. There are very few resources for adoptive families who face the challenges of expensive and lengthy care. We need a community of support! Please consider if you can make a one time or monthly donation to offer Jacob a bright future.
100% of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the treatment provider. Thank you!
AFC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the holistic support of adoptive families. Families who faced similar challenges firsthand and understand the need for support founded the nonprofit.
